Radioaktiva Räker are Jonas Lund
(drums), Johan Anttila (guitar & vocals), Jimmy
Petersson (guitar) and Dåglas (bass).
The band was formed by Anttila and Torro in Hofors,
June 1991. After one month of intense rehearsing and
when nine songs were made, the first demo Ur Askan
Ur Elden was recorded in Megatone's studio,
and was sold in about 400 copies. One year and about
ten gigs later, demo number two, Sanningen, was
recorded, once again in Megatone's studio, in about
ten to twenty hours. This also became the demo that
got Beat Butchers interested, and offered the
band the Traxton studio to record an EP. At that time,
Jimmy, who played bass, left the band, and the only
one available to take his place was Dåglas, who
luckily enough wanted to join the band.
The EP was recorded, under a lot of trouble and misery,
and became a 7" EP called Verkligheten.
It was pressed in about 1.000 copies, and got on the
market around the beginning of 1993, that placed the
band on 13:th place in the magazine Backstage's
"best punk band of all times in Sweden" voting.
Today, it is no longer available, though the song "En
Näve Hat" was included on the compilation
CD Definitivt 50 Spänn 2, which has sold
far more copies than the EP, and helped the band reach
an audience throughout the country.
Next came the CD debut, Labyrint, which
was written and recorded at Traxton Recordings at the
end of 1993 and released in 1994. This time they had
Christian Edgren as producer, which gave the
songs a new dimension compared to their earlier work.
Though the scratching and rattle one can hear on Verkligheten
has nothing to do with their selection of recording
studio. It had to do with those who pressed the record,
who had to do it twice as it was, but really should
have been made to do it several additional times. That
didn't happen though, for some reason. The material
for Labyrint wasn't quite enough to make
a full-length, so it became a mini-CD instead. To this
date, and to the members surprise, Labyrint
has sold over 6.000 copies. Their next record, the single
Bakom Spegeln, was released in november
1994.
The band planned to release a full-length sometime
during spring 1995. This did not happen because the
writing of new material went slow and Dåglas had
to do his military service. Finally, at the end of the
year, the band isolated themselves in the studio together
with producer Christian Edgren to record their
latest CD Res Dig Upp, which presents
a more mature band. The material is more varied and
the production is generously worked through and heavier
than on their debut.
Member Daniel Torro (guitar, vocals)
left the band in November 1996 because he had grown
tired of playing. He was replaced by Jimmy Petersson
who previously played drums in the band Död
TV.
During the summer 2003 the band was touring sweden.
In november the same year the album "Finito"
is finaly released. It contains 7 new songs, demos
and material from the singles "Verkligheten"
and "Bakom Spegeln".
