Here follows a few lines to present Roger Karlsson.
Roger comes from the Stockholm suburb town Tumba.
An old industrial community where nature is just around
the corner and where architecture and social stimuli is
as gray and narrow minded as any suburb to a major city
can ever be. It is where the trains pass in a hurry and
the air is filled with sleep. Though it would of course
be naive to believe that these superficial circumstances
necessarily have to make people quiet and passive. On
the contrary, they can develop energy and create a go-ahead
spirit like nothing else.
Roger made his first musical attempts when punk arrived
and opened views and possibilities for those who had
never struck a note. At the end of the 80's, Roger played
in the somewhat well known band Inferno. With
disted guitars and a high BPM, they played at most venues
in Stockholm. At the beginning of 1990, he wanted to
find a different path, away from the screaming road
of rock, littered with simplicity and predictable frames.
And so he formed the semi-acoustic quintet Tuk
Tuk Rally. Within the group, rock and ballads,
pop and folk music mixed and flourished. Electric guitars
went together with ukuleles and mouth organs, and everything
with it became more and more distinct and personal.
Tuk Tuk played at many venues around the country and
were played quite a lot on the Swedish national radio.
During the years 1992-96 they released three albums
and six singles.
But everything has an end and Roger wanted to go further
with his ideas. He met the well known musician and producer
Johan Johansson. With the contacts he had, he
helped Roger to put together a backing band with experienced
and competent musicians. During spring 1995, the material
to the first solo album "Veckans Babe"
was written in haste, parallel to studies at Komvux.
And even though time was limited and money scarce, the
result was an energetic and alive pop album with strong
melodies. It didn't quite top any of the major sales
lists but it was very well received by both record buyers
and reviewers.
What the future holds has yet to be seen. New material
is constantly being written and produced, but the financial
conditions needed to release another album has not yet
been met - actually, it has gotten somewhat worse. But
if that problem disappears, a new record will surely
be released as soon as possible.
